About buzzoop

In the beginning , we created buzzoop because one of the members on the team experienced a clear case of price discrimination. The offending website increased the price of the item between the first and the second visit to the same website on the same day. This motivated the team to build an application that could discover such hidden occurrences. The idea for buzzoop was born.

We also built buzzoop such that we could tell when a website charged one of us a different price than another member of the team. We found out that websites do this quite often simply because on the Internet, they can. [On the Internet, you have no idea what Amazon.com is charging me for a book unless I tell you or vise versa].

The Alpha version of buzzoop was released to a group of friends and family in March of 2007. The positive feedback we received encouraged us to enhance the product.

One of the key pieces of feedback was that, while folks appreciated the goal of exposing price discrimination, a fair amount of them used the Application to maintain a valuable history of all the products that they had looked at, recall this information using the buzzoop Search function, and share this information with friends that were also users of buzzoop.

So, as it turns out, buzzoop can help you and fellow members:

• Store all your product information in one place as you window-shop on the WWW;
• Save product information for yourself and share it with family, and friends, and the community;
• Check out what products other people are cataloging.
